Race, a short Blender Animation

Ok, that wasn’t actually planned, there’s a draft somewhere for a blog post about everything that happened in April, but I never really got to finish it because this beast here kept me busy for the last 3 days. What started as a test with certain Blender techniques, turned into this huge project with animation … more →

Home Office Day Two

On Sunday it was day two of principal photography for the next short film Home Office. It was actually rather reshooting things from day one after watching a rough cut. Some scenes got a much better composition and I think the lighting was improved as well. Upon doing a rough cut again, I once again … more →

Almost half-time with Home Office

On Sunday I shot the second half the upcoming next short film and upon making a rough cut I realized that I need to reshoot certain scenes. I know this happens a lot with me but I’m still learning things. There are some beautiful shots in there but also some rather bland ones and the … more →

Cursor, it’s finally here

What a process this was, but I finally found the time to finish it and man oh man am I glad it’s finally out there. It all started in August when I shot the first footage, I started a few times in the meantime and the idea of what is now in the final version … more →

Starting small with Bad Milk

I’m not sure this qualifies as a short or microfilm but that’s not important. The goal here was to get back into the game of shooting videos, making movies and for that, I was happy with anything. I could have inserted some close-ups to spice things up but I wanted to keep it simple because … more →

Ok that was Nonsense

Yesterday when I wrote that I like to keep things close to the chest and not reveal anything here until I’m ready, I quickly realized that this was nonsense. I mean the point of this blog was to put those things out there and use it to make the next step, so why not actually … more →

I’m working on Something

It’s been a while but I’m having an idea for a new micro movie and I started to write down some notes, draw some storyboards and test some shots. I don’t wanna put TOO much pressure on me with a timeframe so I take it step-by-step. But of course, I have to move forward. The … more →

In the mood for something Scary?

Ok let me explain, I had this idea for some time now (I think it all started in December) and I actually shot three different versions on three different weekends. The general idea was to shoot something simple and all alone and try to use masking for special effects. While shooting the second weekend I … more →

‘Juicy Finish’, a new Short Film

After a rather long, intense and costly first short-film process with Movie Night I was in the mood for something rather simple and quick. I had this idea of making a film with fast cuts and some humorous bits and make it rather silly. Having a simple shoot with just one location and fewer actors and … more →

‘Movie Night’ my first real Short Film

It was a long long process but the finished film has finally been released. It’s shocking when I look back to the inception phase of this small project and how long it took and how it all turned out now. First, it took me two weeks to find a story, then another month to prepare … more →

My first attempts at making Movies

My uncle bought himself an old camcorder on eBay to play and transfer Video 8 and HI8 tapes. I too have four old tapes and yesterday I watched what was actually on these tapes because I had no Idea. To my surprise, there are old recordings of me and some friends trying to shoot movies. … more →

Shooting Videos with an iPhone?!?

There are some blog posts, especially from way back in the day, where I talk about shooting movies. There are even two Short Films, Short Films? Let’s not call them Short Films, let’s just call them Scenes or Clips. One was The Insider and the other one was Slippery When Wet. It was fun shooting them and … more →

Sharlto Copley plays sadistic GOD

Neill Blomkamp has created his own Film Production Company Oats Studios and has published various short experimental films through different channels (YouTube being one of them). So far they released four Short Films and while I didn’t like most of them THAT much, they are still interesting to watch, and especially FREE!! Now today they released … more →

Coming up with a new story

I started to think about a different story for my sheep movie and currently I’m headed in a direction which is very straight forward when it comes to the whole 3-act structure. There’s the inciting incident following by the plot point #1 which ends the 1st act. What follows are some obstactles and the midpoint and then … more →

Rewrite Animated Short

Well I decided to rewrite my animated short because now after working with Blender I actually wanna do that short and I think my idea with the boy and the interface is just a bit too complicated to do with blender all by myself in a realistic timeframe. Sooo…. I reduce all the complex things … more →

A fresh start with further improvements

After watching some more video tutorials on Blender, I decided to start from scratch with the sheep and try to make it easier to manipulate the head. So I worked with mirroring for the eyes to achieve a better symetry and tried to move the objects better on their axis, especially the now moving eyeballs. … more →

Improving 3D Sheep

I fiddled around with my sheep some more and learned how to increase the resolution of the 3D Objects to make it a lot more smoother. I also made the legs shorter, looks better now and I wanted to improve the horns/ears and the right eyelid but then the animation stopped working. So I leave … more →

My first 3D animation

Well I started working with blender, the free open source 3D modeling software, and created a 3D Model from the sheep and then added some small animation and all this within 6 hours (more or less). I’m happy with it, sure it’s all very basic but that’s because I’m REALLY new to all this but … more →

Story Reel Video

After the storyboards, it was time to create my first story reel video with After Effects and later with Premiere Pro. It’s not perfect (black border all around the video) but it’s the first thing and I’m still getting the hang out of it. The story still has some problems, most of all with the … more →

Improved Storyboards

With a template from the professor, I redrew all the storyboards and made some things more clearer. The next step now is to import those storyboards into Adobe Premiere and create a 2D animatic scene which gives me a time feeling of the scene and shows me a lot more what’s missing and where do … more →
